English and Diving

Course Description

Learn to scuba dive while learning English on the English and Diving course at YouSTUDY International College, Cairns. You will become a certified PADI open water diver with expert instructors taking you step by step through the classroom requirements, pool training and open water diving. The diving course is 5 days long, and during this time you’ll spend 3 days and 2 nights living on board a boat out on the Great Barrier Reef. You will also take English lessons (equivalent to the Vacation English course) for the rest of the program, allowing you to improve your English skills and communicate more effectively during your time in Australia.

The Great Barrier Reef is the most famous diving destination in the world and is great place to learn to dive, with year-round warm water, minimal currents and great visibility. There is a maximum of 32 passengers on board your dive boat, and you have the same instructor and group for your 3-day live-aboard dive experience. There are 16 exclusive dive sites in 4 different locations and free Global Gossip Wireless Internet onboard.

Your Classes

The diving course includes

• Materials fees and enrolment fees

• Additional Vacation or Intensive English lessons (can be booked as an add-on to this package)
• Swimsuit and towel (student must bring their own)
• Medical check ($85-90, to be completed upon arrival if required)
• Government taxes and charges ($80, payable on arrival and may be subject to change; includes port departure tax, environmental management and administration charge)

Safety First!

You must also complete a self-assessed Student Diver Medical Declaration on arrival and be able to answer NO to the following questions:

• Have you ever suffered from Epilepsy?
• Have you ever suffered from Diabetes?
• Have you ever suffered from Asthma?
• Have you ever had a collapsed lung?
• Have you ever suffered from anything which causes ‘spontaneous unconsciousness’?

If you answer YES to any of these questions, you must consult a medical practitioner to provide a certi­ficate indicating you are fi­t to dive.

Classes may be offered in mornings and/or afternoons and will depend on the schedules offered in the school during your period of study This program is not available to Student Visa holders.
