Program Description

The primary objective of the Job Ready Program is to enhance the employability and readiness of our students for the workforce.  This will help you secure meaningful employment and build successful careers.

This program varies depending on the goals and available resources and this is suited mainly for Student Visa and Working Holiday Visa Holders.

Classes include:

  • Job Introduction Session
  • Responsible service of alcohol studies
  • Barista Course at TAFE QLD over 4 days including:
    • SITHFAB025 Prepare and serve espresso coffee
    • SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety

 

Your Classes

Job Introduction Session

This session introduces students to job hunting in Cairns and Australia generally.  It includes:

  • Using Seek, Career One, LinkedIn and other sites to search for jobs
  • Resume Preparation
  • Interview skills
  • Dress Code
  • Tax file number and opening bank accounts

RSA Certification Course

This course is designed to educate individuals who work in roles involving the sale, service, or supply of alcohol.   This course is a must if you intend to seek work serving drinks in a licensed venue such as a pub, hotel, bar or nightclub in Queensland.

Learn how to responsibly sell and serve alcohol, explore ways to assist customers to drink within appropriate limits, recognise and respect the laws regarding the sale and consumption of alcohol and develop the skills required to refuse the sale or service of alcohol.

Successful completion of this course will enable you to gain the certification for the Unit of Competency SITHFAB021 – Provide responsible service of alcohol, you can continue on to further study or enter the workforce as a barista.

Barista Course at TAFE QLD

This short course will provide you with the basic skills and knowledge required to make delicious espresso coffee.

Gain skills in setting up, operating, maintaining, and cleaning coffee equipment including the espresso machine and grinder. You will learn how to make espresso coffees including cafe latte, cappuccino, flat white, mochaccino, macchiato, long black, and ristretto. You will also be introduced to customer service skills and learn to follow workplace hygiene standards.

Successful completion of this course will enable you to gain certification for the following, Units of Competency:

  • SITHFAB025 Prepare and serve espresso coffee
  • SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety

You can continue on to further study or enter the workforce as a barista.
